What is your position at AHG and what are a few of your duties?
I have been a Family Practice Nurse Practitioner for 8 years and started working with AHG right out of school as a new graduate. I am the Population Health Manager for AHG which is a non-traditional Nurse Practitioner role, but I love it. As an RN, I worked in ER, hospice, and a clinic setting and I definitely believe those experiences prepared me for unique and rewarding challenges faced with this position. We started the Population Health program initially with another NP and me. We wanted to know how we could help our members more by going into their homes and identifying any barriers they may have. Fast-forward to today, we have over 50 employees in our department, and have seen over 10,000 members since the program started because of the help of all of our talented department. My duties are to make sure the department is flowing well, work on new projects, educate providers, and also improve processes that improve our patient care. The one thing I have learned is to not see failure in a negative light, but to use the experience for growth. I also believe in creating a culture that you want to surround yourself with. I like to surround myself with awesome people and my work family impresses me daily by their willingness to help our department and company succeed. I just love watching them grow their career, that’s probably one of my favorite parts of this role.
What is your day-to-day like?
My day to day involves problem-solving for population health initiatives. I get to meet with a multitude of people on how we can improve patient care. When you work with a forward-thinking group of individuals, new projects always arise. Our group is especially good at taking a new task and working through the logistics & improving workflows, so it is never boring!
What do you like most about your role?
I love to watch others grow and become leaders within our department. I like watching their families grow & being with them through different seasons of their life. I also love to hear the success stories of our team helping our members when they have a significant need. Our team truly has a heart for helping others.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to make wine, play in my vineyard, & go camping with my family.
What inspired you to start making wine?
My husband and I started making wine almost 5 years ago now. We went to a conference in Sonoma Valley, CA around 5 years ago and fell in love with the vineyard view. I told my husband that I would love to have a vineyard in the backyard, and the rest is history. We went to “Wine College” (Enology school) in Texas on the weekends and have enjoyed every bit of it! When I’m not working, we are either playing in the vineyard of 800 or so vines, making wine, or prepping for the tasting room to open! It has been such a fun adventure so far!
